About Us

THRIVE Peninsula is a local nonprofit connecting neighbors with food, financial assistance and financial coaching, resources, and opportunities to build greater stability.

Founded in 1973 as a coalition of local churches, THRIVE has grown into a community-powered organization serving Newport News, Hampton, Yorktown, and Poquoson. Our Newport News headquarters is home to the Peninsula’s first free grocery store, The Market at THRIVE, along with financial assistance and coaching, resource navigation, an educational community garden, a free children’s bookstore, and more.

But THRIVE is about more than the services inside our building. We connect people who need support with people, businesses, churches, and organizations that want to help. From volunteering and food drives to corporate partnerships, monthly giving, and Market Take-Overs, there are many ways to be part of the work.
