Job Title: Finance Director
Reports to: Executive Director
Hours & Salary: 20 hrs/wk for $35,000 annual salary

music instruction and performance to develop life skills in students from early childhood to early
adulthood. The organization provides daily after-school music programs, a regional youth orchestra,

Position Description:
The Finance Director will be responsible for Soundscapes’ ongoing financial health during a period of
organizational and budgetary growth. The person in this position will oversee accounting operations
and will establish financial strategies that follow best practices and improve efficiency. The Finance
Director will have a seat at the table in the highest level organizational conversations, and will advocate
for the future financial health of the organization as Soundscapes builds strategies to grow the
program. This person will often be called on to explain complex financial concepts, data, and policies to
people without a background in finance, and the ability to communicate clearly in a way anyone can
understand will be critical. In addition, the Finance Director will ensure the organization is prepared to
provide all required financial information and reports to funders, including federal, state, and local
government agencies. The Finance Director will oversee the Finance & Payroll Manager, who
is responsible for day-to-day bookkeeping and twice monthly payroll. The Finance Director will also be
the staff representative on the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors, and will provide monthly
reports on the organization’s financial health to the Board.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Certified Public Accountant license and at least 5 years related experience in financial management.
  • Clear understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Experience with nonprofit accounting and the ways it differs from for-profit accounting.
  • Experience providing financial reports for grant funders, and for government funders in particular.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Management and supervising experience.
  • Strong computer skills, to include QuickBooks Online, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Workspace.
  • Appreciation of music and an understanding of its value.
